Why do you use informal address?
We address everyone informally, unless they prefer otherwise. NaturFreunde was founded in 1895 from the workers' movement as a socialist organisation. Informal address was from the beginning an expression of equality and solidarity among members — a conscious departure from bourgeois hierarchies. It reflected the shared struggle for nature experience, education and social justice and continues to shape the desired simplicity of the movement today.
With dog
Can I bring a dog?
We provide a room (annex, ground floor, right, far back) where dogs can stay overnight with their humans.
What matters to us:
- Allergy sufferers should be able to use all rooms without restriction.
- Bird, nesting and breeding protection takes priority — dogs can startle or disturb wildlife.
- Feces from domestic animals can contain pathogens that forest animals cannot cope with.
- Hygiene rules in kitchen operations require a hair-free environment.
But we don't want to ban assistance or emotionally important animals. As a compromise solution, the following applies:
- Agreement within the group: Everyone must agree.
- Behaviour outdoors: Dogs must never hunt, root, chase or startle wildlife. So leash or similar depending on hunting and discovery instinct.
- Always pick up faeces and dispose of in residual waste.
- Kitchen remains off-limits: Dogs have no access there. Keep as many rooms animal-free as possible.
- Thorough cleaning: After the stay, vacuuming and mopping is required — especially for dogs with shedding coats.
Sustainability
Water and Energy
The largest part of the house is heated with wood. Hot water is produced by solar collectors. Our electricity is "nuclear-free" from a regional supplier and the water comes from our own spring near the house; the water quality is regularly checked. To operate as ecologically as possible, we ask you to observe the following:
- Heating thermostats max. at "3"
- Shock ventilation instead of tilted windows
- Don't let water run unnecessarily
- Only switch on necessary lighting
- Separate waste into compost, yellow bag, paper and residual waste
Rules
No smoking
The entire NaturFreundeHaus is a non-smoking house. You can smoke outside, though. At the house entrances you will find containers for cigarette butts. Due to fire risk and environmental reasons, we ask you not to throw butts away. Please empty and clean the ashtrays before your departure.
Rooms
Bed linen
Every bed must be made by you with a fitted sheet, a pillowcase and a duvet cover. For a fee, you can borrow bed linen from us if you forgot it. But please understand that we cannot provide bed linen for the whole group. Sleeping bags are only allowed if the mattress and pillow are covered.
The red fitted sheets are protective covers and remain on the bed at departure.
Rules
Waste
Please ensure responsible separation of compost, yellow bag, paper and residual waste. For this purpose, the corresponding containers are available downstairs in front of the main house.
Catering
Drinks
There is a drinks cellar in the main building (house with kitchen and dining room). Drinks are available there for you. Please only bring your own drinks with our knowledge. We charge "corkage" for this.
Digital
Phone calls
Mobile reception at our place is modest. However, there is a Wi-Fi network that you can use free of charge.
Leisure
Snowshoes, hiking maps, games etc.
The office has board games, paper + pens, books, balls and games for indoors and outdoors ready to borrow. Snowshoes and sledges can be borrowed.
Newsletter
Is there a newsletter?
Not yet. But if there are enough interested people, we will also be happy to inform you by email about the house and projects. You can already enter your email address here. We will get in touch when the time comes.
Nature
Ticks and TBE
In the forest and meadows near the house live some ticks that can transmit TBE. A vaccination is helpful. On site there is coconut oil which — applied to the calves — repels ticks and can also help with bites.
